2012 State Champions
Performance Martial Arts Academy has produced six state champions for the 2012 season. Chief Instructor, Mitchell Church tells that this "is quite an accomplishment and is a year long process that involves intense training, travel and competition events across the country. This is a point accumulation system and the competitor with the most points from throughout the state is the winner." "These students and in many cases; their parents make significant sacrifices to achieve this goal." Church adds. The results are as follows: Color Belt Division Duane Cunningham won State Champion in Traditional Forms. Madison Swain won State Champion in Sparring. First Degree Black Belt Division Kyle Turner won State Champion in Traditional Weapons Second and Third Degree Black Belt Division Jennifer Hardy won State Champion in Traditional Forms, Traditional Weapons and Sparring Fourth and Fifth Degree Black Belt Division Jennifer Powell won State Champion in Traditional Weapons Mark Webb won State Champion in Traditional Forms, Traditional Weapons, Sparring, Creative Forms, Creative Weapons, Extreme Forms and Extreme Weapons.

The focus on this past Saturday’s Leadership Clinic was the Sahn Knat or Kama.? Mr. Smith went over the proper care of these ATA weapons as well as the different styles (protech, xma / tournament versions), and the in depth history of the Kama.? Traditionally a farming implements similar to a sickle used for reaping crops and also employed as a weapon.? The Sahn Knat is a formidable weapon, traditionally used in pairs, though in agricultural use it would be used one-handed, whilst the other hand grasped the stalks for cutting.? As a weapon, both the point and sharpened edge of the metal blade are called in to use, while the Sahn Knat could also be used to block, trap and disarm weapons used against the wielder.
Mrs. Adkins went over counts and variety of Strikes, as well as the form for this cycles weapon testing to be used with the kama(s).? Then Ms. Adkins a 2009 State Champion in XMA (whom used the Kama for tournaments) and Mr. Cox went over a variety of tricks and stylish moves to allow the students a variety of fun movements to develop their free-style over the coming months.
Of course a Leadership clinic would not be complete without some pad jumping! Then Finally the Pizza party to re-energize everyone that attended and work so hard during the morning.? Thank you to the instructors, the assistant instructors of the IP program and all the leadership student whom made this a successful and fun leadership clinic. Remember practice your ATA weapons daily and you will become more familiar and better with the weapon.

5th Degree Black Belt and Chief Instructor of?Performance Martial Arts Academy, Mitchell Church?announces that Glen Sibley?recently?competed at the American Taekwondo Association’s “Holiday Classic Regional Tournament”, held at the Cashman Field Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Church reports that Sibley who is a green belt competed in a ring against competitors 3 to 4 belt ranks higher then himself.?? Mr. Sibley?won 2nd place in Songahm Weapons with his Double Ssahng Jeol Bong (nunchukas), and a 2nd place finish in Sparring.
Mr. Church adds that Sibley has a good chance of? becoming State Champion in all seven events for the 2009-2010 tournament season.

Performance Martial Arts will having it’s Grand Opening for it’s new Lake Park location on Saturday, August 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Hall’s Fitness Center located at 1186 Lakes Boulevard, Lake Park, Georgia? 31636.? The DJ’s of Hot 102.7 will be present? and we will be having free hot dogs and hamburgers for all of our guests visiting us at our new location.?? The first 20 people to sign up to take classes will receive a Free Instructional DVD & Book.?? Our World and State Champion Black Belts will be performing Board Breaking and Weapons demonstrations throughout the day.? We are all excited about having an academy in Lake Park making it more convenient for our South Lowndes/Echols County and North Florida friends to come work out with us.
